What is the Green Compass Scheme

The Green Compass Scheme membership is applicable to waste management organisations that process construction, industrial, commercial or household waste. A member company might operate a transfer station, treatment facility or disposal site.

Companies who are members of The Green Compass Scheme are the elite of the waste management industry and in general, work within the parameters of international quality standards to demonstrate best practice and endeavour to continuously improve processes, delivery and customer satisfaction.

What's the Green Compass Inspection Process

To register your waste management organization with the Green Compass Scheme and apply for an Inspection audit from Tarian Inspection Services, please follow the process below: Step 1 - Register your organization with the Green Compass Scheme. Green Compass manages the scheme and issues your PAS 402 certificate if you successfully pass an audit with Tarian Inspection Services. (Green Compass are completely separate to Tarian Inspection Services as Tarian carry out the independent audits against PAS 402). Green Compass can also assist with guidance, training and practical help.

What is PAS 402:2025

PAS 402 was written specifically for performance reporting for the waste management industry – encouraging business improvements by providing a standardised methodology for recording performance data and demonstrating management credentials.

This PAS specifies requirements for performance reporting by a waste resource managementorganization.

It requires a waste resource management organization to report:

  1. how it conducts specific waste resource management activities
  2. the material recovery rates it achieves

It is applicable to waste resource management organizations that have the benefit of an environmental permit, or waste management licence or operate an exempt activity.

What or Who is UKAS

UKAS is the National Accreditation Body for the United Kingdom. We are appointed by government, to assess and accredit organisations that provide services including certification, testing, inspection, calibration, validation and verification.
